March Activities

Boy, it has been pretty nice out there! February was uncharacteristically on the warm side and March is looking like it will follow suit. And, as the weather gets warmer it seems like more and more events are coming out of the woodwork. Below are 5 of the events I’m looking forward to this month, I hope you like them too!

If you are a hockey fan, then an Idaho Steelheads game is right for you. Their season ends in the middle of April, so be sure to stop by one of their home games during the month of March. The Steelheads have had a great season and are at the top of their game. They have a lineup of fantastic players that bring their A-game every night.

At a Steelheads game you can enjoy hockey, great food, and both adult and non-adult beverages. They also have contests and giveaways during the breaks between periods and sometimes even shows you can enjoy.

Julia Davis Park, Boise

If you like running, charities, or just plain fun, then you will love the St. Patrick’s Day Fun Run. Hosted by the YMCA organization, the St. Patrick’s Day Fun Run is an event that supports track and field events at the YMCA for children. It is broken up into three different routes: 5K, 5 Miles, and 1 mile so you can choose your difficulty level.

It starts at Julia Davis Park around 9:30. However, if you plan to run, you might want to get there earlier than that.

Playhouse Boise

Everyone loves to laugh and that is just what One Mic Stand Mondays is all about. Comedy is growing in popularity here in the Treasure Valley bringing big names from places like Reno, Seattle, and Denver as well as bringing out of the woodwork our own local talents. So, if you are looking to experience more of the great acts that are cracking up our community, then you need to head on over to One Mic Stand Mondays.

Every Monday the Playhouse Boise offers free comedic entertainment with free parking and only a 2 item minimum. Come check it out if you want to get your week off to a good start.

Capital High School

If you like to play basketball, or just watch it, then this is the tournament for you. The Bam Jam is an even held every spring and summer here in the valley to raise money for local non-profit organizations and to spread the love of the game of Basketball. It is a tournament with brackets for all ages and skill levels. There are also slam Dunk tournaments, three shot tournaments, and much more.

Registration only costs $25 dollars and all the proceeds this year will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County and Idaho Select Player’s Fund.

The Treefort Music Festival is probably one of the largest events Boise hosts in the month of March. It is a massive multiday festival where musicians of all kinds gather to perform their music for the people of the Treasure Valley. The festival brings in big names as well as local artists of all genres to promote a love and appreciation of music.

During the festival there is even a film festival portion where independent film makers can display their work, take classes, and even join Q&As.

The Treefort Music Festival does not have a central location, but rather it is spread through the valley at different locations. So, be sure to find the location of the event you want to visit on their website before heading out.

Morrison Center

If you are a fan of musicals, show tunes, or just music in general, then you will love the Midtown Men show at the Morrison Center this month. The Morrison Center has hosted many amazing acts, plays, and performances in its time, and the Midtown Men will surely not diminish that reputation.

The Midtown Men, 4 of the original cast members from Broadway’s Jersey Boys accompanied by a seven person band, offer a performance to be reckoned with. Their amazing renditions of 60’s music will have you on singing along thanks to their abundant talent and amazing harmonization.
