The McCall Winter Carnival is one of the most looked forward to events of the year. Though it doesn’t take place in Boise, but rather in McCall which is 2 hours north of here, it is still a tradition that people from the Treasure Valley trek up north for almost every year. Thousands of people flock to McCall during the Winter Carnival to enjoy the plethora of great activities in and around this snowy paradise. This year you can expect to see fairs, parades, and, of course, the famous McCall ice sculpture contest. The carnival is a multiday event that spans from the end of January to the 5th of February and no matter what it is you plan to do while you are there it is a great way to combat the cold winter blues this February.
If you have never seen the Harlem Globetrotters before then you need to get tickets for their show on February 9th at the Idaho Center. There are many interesting facts about Idaho that many people don’t know and one of them is that Idaho is known as the Gem State. This is due to the many types of gems, minerals, precious metals, and non-precious metals of all kinds here in Idaho including the elusive Star Garnet.
Thanks to this large amount of gems that can be found here, Idaho has become a gathering place for geologist, jewelers and gem enthusiasts from all over. The Gem and Mineral Show is a place that all gem admirers can come together to buy, sell, trade, and learn all things gems and minerals. There will even be demonstrations in things like silversmithing, faceting and so on.
Admission to the Idaho Gem and Mineral Show is $4.00 a person with children under 12 getting in for free.
