March Events in the Treasure Valley
A popular saying among those native in the Treasure Valley goes something like this, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 30 minutes.” If you don’t like the weather we have had these past few days, you’re not alone; after all, it’s not fun to go from a pseudo-spring to the dead of winter in the matter of a week. If you are feeling these February blues like many of us are, here are some events in March going on all over the Valley that you can mark on your calendars:
March 1st, Downtown
Starting off in the Capital City, the monthly First Thursday event takes place this upcoming Thursday evening in downtown Boise. This event is catered to visitors of the City of Trees, putting on exhibition some of the best of what downtown Boise has to offer in the way of shops, restaurants and sight-seeing opportunities. Beginning right as the work day ends, the festivities begin at 5 pm, and conclude mostly around 9 pm. At all First Thursday events in Boise, there is a little bit of everything, appealing to a variety of interests. If art in its many varieties calls to you, there are always art events, featuring mostly local artists that use a multitude of mediums. If you love the idea of a relaxing dinner carried aloft by with a touch of musical prose, there are restaurants downtown that can suit those desires. Local musicians of many genres play in various venues downtown, providing live entertainment sure to spice up your evening. In those shops that participate in the event, you can find First Thursday shopping specials, sure to be kind on your pocketbook as well as on your sensibilities.
March 1st & 2nd, Nampa Civic Center
If you’re looking for a mixture of “the magic of Broadway and the energy of a rock show with the excitement of Irish dance”, the Nampa Civic Center is poised to host the kick off show of the “Rockin’ Road to Dublin” tour. The brainchild of Celtic rocker Chris Smith and Irish Dance World Champion Scott Doherty, this event is sure to be something you will never forget. As Chris Smith says, “This isn’t your typical Irish dance show.” Tickets have been on sale since January, but there is still time left to procure seating for either the March 1st show or the March 2nd show before the act leaves town. The show will also feature three time international Irish dance champion Ashley Smith as the female lead dancer, as well as the Broadway dance choreographer Jeff Whiting.
March 10th, Nampa, ID
If you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, and if the briskness of early spring doesn’t bother you, the self described, “Cure for Cabin Fever” is being held on March 10 in Nampa. This “cure” is a hike centered around the remnants of the historic Oregon Trail that can be found just outside of Nampa, overlooking the Boise River and the beautiful landscape of the Treasure Valley. This gem of an opportunity to get your hike on begins at 9:30 am and concludes just after 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Worried about the hike? The trail is graded as a beginner level hike, and therefore the only challenge to you is to get out of bed that early on a Saturday morning.
March 21st through 25th, Downtown Boise
Going back to the east side of the Treasure Valley, the annual Treefort Music Festival will cap off the end of the month, going from the 21st of the month to the 25th. Treefort is always a big deal for Boise, spanning many venues and bringing out the city in a celebration of spring, of Boise, and especially of music. This festival draws musicians and groups from all over the country, with a healthy lineup of local musicians complimenting the wide variety of acts set to play in the festival. Treefort is unique in the sense that all the concerts will not be held at one venue, rather at multiple venues, encouraging visitors to see the city, take in the sights, food, and sounds of City of Trees, as well as the magnificent music. Treefort is one of Boise’s most prestigious events, one that is an absolute must for any self respecting music lover.
March 23rd through 25th, Boise Centre on the Grove
Around that same time, the annual Boise Flower & Garden Show will bloom from March 23rd to the 25th. This event is a welcome embrace of spring time after a (usually) cold winter, mustering with many different flowers, decorative plants and vegetables on display. Featured as part of this event are workshops that demonstrate how to properly utilize your green thumb in a variety of ways, as well as experts on hand to give advice from anything from horticulture to landscaping. Also as part of this event will be plants, starts and seeds for sale, as well as multiple other lawn and gardening necessities.
This is just a portion of the events that are available in the Treasure Valley, but some we thought you may enjoy. Spring is just around the corner!
