January 2018 Events in the Boise Area
Happy New Year! It is now officially 2018 and the Treasure Valley is hitting the ground running with almost countless numbers of awesome events for you to enjoy. So, without further delay, let’s dive right in! Here are 6 of the top events you should look out for this month in Boise.
Jan 6th: 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM, Jack’s Urban Meeting Place
If you enjoy board and card games with friends, then you are definitely going to enjoy this awesome event at JUMP on the 6th of January: ‘Game Time’. Game Time is a free event that is going to be held every first Saturday of the month in January, February, and March. It is a time when you can gather, bring whatever games you want to play and have fun with friends and other visitors to the JUMP Center.
It starts at noon and goes until 2:00 PM and will be located in the lobby of the JUMP Center.
Jan 13th: 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Jack’s Urban Meeting Place
Another great free event that you can find at the JUMP Center is the Falun Dafa Qigong Workshop. It is much like yoga but from China. However, unlike yoga, instead of twisting and bending, you do slow movements to help activate your muscles, loosen your joints, and so on. It looks a lot like Tai Chi, but without the intent to fight.
It will be a wonderful hour-long workshop that will go over exercises to boost your health, reduce stress, and help you grow emotionally. It will be held in the Move Studio at JUMP which is on the 5th floor.
Jan 16th: 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Egyptian Theater
The Cabin, a center for readers and writers, is an organization here in Boise that tries to promote writing for the general public. They are located right next door to the downtown branch of the Boise library. However, for this event, the Readings and Conversations with Jesmyn Ward, will be down the road at the illustrious Egyptian Theater.
At this event, you can hear from Ward and learn about her journey, her writing, and so much more. From what we can tell, the event is free—but you should check before you go.
Jan 21st: 6:00 PM, Ford Idaho Center
If you are looking for some great music to warm you up during the deep winter of January, then you will surely enjoy this great concert by Justin Moore. Moore is a country music star and is stopping in Nampa as part of his Hell on a Highway tour. However, you won’t just get to hear from Moore, you will also get to hear from the awesome Dylan Scott!
Tickets are on sale now and range in price depending on how far away they are from the stage. Doors open at 6 PM and the concert starts at 7:30 PM.
Jan 25: 6:00 PM, Jack’s Urban Meeting Place
If you are an aspiring writer, then you may want to check out the Writer’s Toolbox Revision Workshop. It is a $20 event that will how to better critique your own work and as well as someone else’s. However, most importantly, you will also be able to bond with other local writers, get more ideas, and learn what resources you have available.
The people who are putting on the Revision Workshop are also doing a workshop called ‘Capturing Story through Objects’ in February and ‘Creating a Story Spine’ in March.
Jan 25th: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Jack’s Urban Meeting Place
If you don’t want to swing by the Writer’s Toolbox on the 25th, you should definitely head over to the Dinosaur Cupcakes event. It is a $25 event that will cover recipes and tricks for making awesome cupcakes. They will also go over how to shape and mold your cupcakes to make fantastic shapes and arrangements— specifically dinosaurs. There are only 12 spaces available, so be sure to get your ticket now. It will be held at 6 PM on the 25th of January in the JUMP Center lobby.
As you can tell, January of 2018 is going to be pretty eventful here in the Treasure Valley.
