Fun Boise Area Activities!

August Events and Activities

Wow, it’s almost August already? It feels like May was just yesterday—where has the time gone!? Well, at least the month of August is proving to be the best month we’ve seen so far for events here in the Treasure Valley. So let’s jump right in and see what we have to look forward to this month. Before we start however, be sure to always stay hydrated when you are out there enjoying yourself and don’t forget to wear sunscreen. You don’t want to end a fun day in the sun with a sunburn and dehydration.

The Summer BAM Jam

August 6th & 7th

Downtown Boise— Capitol Park

If you are a fan of basketball, even in the slightest, then the BAM Jam is the place for you to be on August sixth and seventh. It is a fun 3 on 3 tournament for players of all skill levels that offers matches, challenges, and so much more. It is held primarily in and around Capitol Park just in front of the State Capitol of Idaho which offers a beautiful 360 view of downtown. Not to mention the park will also be full of food trucks and other vendors to slake your thirst or satisfy your appetite between games.

The first day of the tournament is usually the bracketed tournament where teams of 3 will play at least 3 games as they battle the competition. The second day, on the other hand, is a bit different. The traditional Slam Dunk and 3-point shot challenges are the main events the morning and afternoon of the 7th. To register for the BAM Jam, check out their website for the details

Outdoor Mural Gallery Event

August 6th through 13th

Downtown Boise— Freak Alley

Art lovers of all kinds will find the Freak Alley Mural Gallery Event a time to remember. But, to really appreciate this event, you need to know more about it. Freak Alley is a stretch of alleyway in downtown Boise that has been sanctioned (whether officially or unofficially) for street art. This includes graffiti, murals and mosaics. It is a beautiful part of Boise culture and a perfect representation of the artistic soul of this the City of Trees.

While Freak Alley is open for the public to tour every day of the year at any time, as well as free to use for photography backgrounds, there is a specific event the week of August 6th through the 13th where artists can showcase their works. See their website for more details. (NOTE: be safe when going downtown after nightfall. Boise is a relatively safe city, but it is always best to go with a buddy or just wait until it is light out)

The Western Idaho Fair

August 19th– 28th

Idaho Fairgrounds

The Western Idaho Fair is one the Treasure Valley’s most awaited events. It is a massive collection of rides, vendors, shows, and food that has never ceased to amaze. Coming during the later weeks of August, the Western Idaho Fair will be 10 days of fun and excitement.

As it was mentioned earlier, the fair is home to a number great events. There will be several concerts and performances by Josh Turner, Foreigner, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, and many more— a part of the fair that is always eagerly anticipated. Another eagerly anticipated part of the fair are the rides and food vendors. If you like carnival rides, hot dogs, and deep fried Twinkies (yes, you can usually buy them there) then you will have a great time.

The Great Inflatable Race

August 27th

Ann Morrison Park

It really is as strange, and as fun, as it sounds. The Great Inflatable Race is a charity race that is held every year. What makes it different from a regular race? Well, first of all, it is really an obstacle course and secondly, these obstacles are large, bouncy, inflatable objects. It is a kooky way to get some exercise, help benefit a charity, and have fun!

Race times are staggered from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM every half hour (so the course doesn’t get congested). Check out their website for more information about signing up!

5 Seconds of Summer

August 27th

Taco Bell Arena

This awesome concert will be a night to remember. Come check out this awesome new band and special guest appearances by Roy English and Hey Violet. These are some of the hottest names in pop music and are responsible for several radio hits from the last year.

Prices for this concert range from $25 to $79.95 depending on your seat. The Taco Bell Arena has more information on the concert and a link to buy tickets. Check it out today to find out more! Doors open at 7:30.

So there you have it: 5 great activities to enjoy during August. There are more activities than these you can enjoy in Boise this month, so be sure to keep a lookout for other awesome events!
