August Events around Boise

August is finally here and we still have no shortage of great activities and events here in the Treasure Valley. As usual, we have put together a list of some of the more interesting, events you can see going on this month.  These activities, and many others, are waiting for you in and around the Boise area, making it the center for all sorts of fun. August is seen by many as the traditional end of the summer season (though summer doesn’t actually end until late September); so, if you are looking for a fun way to enjoy the last full month of summer, then be sure to check some of these activities out.

Spay Neuter Idaho Pets Benefit,

August 3rd, 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Edge Brewing Company

We here in Idaho love animals, especially our pets. So, it is natural that we would have activities and events to help support the health and safety of our furry friends. To help cut down on the number of strays in the State of Idaho, the Spay and Neuter Idaho Pets (coincidentally known as S.N.I.P.) is on a mission to contain the population of dogs and cats.

If you want to support them on this mission, be sure to swing by Edge Brewing Company on the 3rd of August and enjoy an adult beverage— a portion of the proceeds will be given to S.N.I.P.

Free Movie in the Park

Fridays in August through the 18th, 8:30 PM

Optimist Park

There are few things as fun as a movie night under the stars on a lovely summer evening. Luckily for Treasure Valley residents, there are many opportunities to do that this summer. One of those opportunities for those living in the Nampa area is at Optimist Park. If you swing by Optimist Park on Fridays through the 18th of August at 8:30 PM, you are sure to stumble upon some great choices for entertainment. Be sure to check the website for more information about what movies will be shown on which days.

Tour de Fat

August 12th, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Anne Morrison Park

On the 12th of August, be sure to check out the Tour de Fat show that will be put on by New Belgium Brewing Company. This event combines music, performances, and so much more to mystify and astound you. Their website explains that the show will include circus performers, comedians, musicians, and even the Blackberry Smoke band.  Be sure to dress up if you enter the ride!

The Tour de Fat is a benefit show for many of the Treasure Valley’s local bicycle groups including Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association, Boise Bicycle Project, and so on.

Tickets can be found on the Tour de Fat website.

Western Idaho Fair

August 18th to August 27th, Times Vary

Idaho Fair Grounds

The Western Idaho Fair is one of the most looked forward to events of the year. Whether you are excited about the rides, the shows, the vendors, or just the great fair food, you are not going to be disappointed at this Treasure Valley Fair. It is the largest fair in the area and attracts acts, patrons, and events from all over the country.

Not to mention, there are also thousands of agriculture events like the traditional judging of crops and animals. Be sure to check out the fair at some point during the 9 days they are in town so you too can take part in this great Treasure Valley tradition.

Solar Eclipse

August 21st, 11:27 AM to 11:35 AM

Central Idaho

There are few things as exciting, and nearly universally captivating as a total solar eclipse, and we here in Idaho are lucky enough to enjoy one this month! On the morning of August 21st at 11:27 AM, the total solar eclipse will cross the Idaho Oregon border near Weiser. Between 11:27 AM and 11:35 AM, said eclipse will pass through the center of Idaho. The best viewing places will be around Garden Valley, Sun Valley, and Rexburg (approximately).

If you venture to see the solar eclipse, be sure to get a pair of glasses to watch it with. Though the sun will be covered by the moon, it will still be bright enough to damage your eyes. So, be sure to get a hold of some devise that is safe for solar eclipse viewing.

As you can probably tell, the month of August is going to be quite exciting for those living in or visiting the Treasure Valley. We are lucky to have these, and hundreds of other activities to enjoy as we start to wrap up the summer months. Be sure to take advantage of all these great activities— you won’t be disappointed.
