The Great Polar Bear Challenge

For the 19th year Make-A-Wish Idaho is holding this annual fundraising event. Hundreds of people come to take a dip in the frigid reservoir water to help grant children’s wishes. In Idaho, 145 children are waiting for their wishes to be fulfilled. If you are not brave enough to get into the water you can still come and donate money to this worthy cause. There will be hot coffee and fresh donuts at the event. What a great way to start off the new year by giving to those in need.

Fundraising events will be happening all month long at the Indian Creek Plaza. A portion of the ice skating revenue made during these events will be donated to these various causes. General Admission (which does include skate rental) will cost ten dollars and for kids five and under it will cost five dollars. So if you plan to go ice skating this month make sure to go on a night that will be given to an organization that is trying to help others.

In fact, there will even be an indoor casting pond to practice what you have learned. This is a big fundraising event for the Boise Valley Fly Fishers who are hosting this event. This group funds philanthropy and conservation projects in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. So if you are interested in learning more about fly fishing this is the perfect event for you.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

McCall Winter Carnival

This is a ten day event and it is something you do not want to miss. Every year the winter carnival has a theme and this year’s theme is “Returning to our Roots.” There will be so much to see and do including a Mardi Gras Parade, live music at the Main Stage, and lots of snow sculptures. There will also be fireworks over Payette Lake on the opening and closing night of the carnival. And if that doesn’t sound like fun to you, there will be vendors and plenty of delicious food and drinks. This is a free event that is open to the public.

Japan Day

There will be booths which will include information on anime, a flea market, and karate booth.  You will be able to stroll through the booths to the sounds of authentic Japanese music such as Koto music and Taiko which is traditional Japanese drumming. There will be performances demonstrating Japanese dancing, specifically the Lion Dance.  Come see a calligraphy demonstration and taste the delights of Japanese cuisine.

Come help Scentsy celebrate their 14th anniversary with this special Rock-a-Thon.

Albertsons Boise Open 2018 Golf Tournament

For 29 years Albertsons has been hosting the Boise Open.  There have been some exciting changes to the fan experience.  Friday, after golfing is done for the day, the popular rock band Cheap Trick will be entertaining golf enthusiasts starting at 7:15 pm.  With the new addition of the Fan Zone, golf spectators will be able to enjoy local foods and beer.  Another new addition is Michelob Ultra Beers FORE Birdies venue on the 16th green. The cost of attending this new venue is included in the price of the ticket.  There are no cover charges or upgrading of tickets necessary to enjoy this new fan experience.

Since its inception in 2007, Idaho Rally has entertained folks from around the world.  There are a few different ways you can enjoy this event, as a participant, a volunteer, or as a spectator.  Idaho Rally has it all for you, whether you want to tear up the roads in the Boise National Forest with the staging area in Idaho City.  Having gained national attention, this year’s event is promised to be the biggest yet.

Crater Crawl- Run Around the Rings

Have you ever wanted the challenge of facing a volcano?  Well, if you have, then this is your opportunity. This 10K (6.2 miles) course of rugged terrain at The Crater Rings National Natural Landmark, is sure to challenge participants.  The race goes to the top of the volcano, then down around the crater rings. The course can be run or walked and for those who don’t want that much of a challenge, there is a 2.9-mile course that leads to a breathtaking overlook of the craters.  

September is a wonderful time for new beginnings.  A time to reset and start anew. You could find your inner adventurer or take on a new challenge.  

 

Brundage Mountain and McCall Winter Carnival

Do you want to play in the snow this week-end?  Brundage Mountain just got over five feet of snow and 100% of their runs are open.  This is a great ski mountain with wide runs and excellent snow.  Head North on Hwy 55 just 8 miles past McCall.

If you decide to go North this week-end, you can ski/snowboard/cross country ski/snowshoe in some great snow PLUS enjoy the McCall Winter Carnival.  The carnival runs from January 27 to February 5, 2012.  It’s loaded with events to see and participate in. Whether you would like to see a parade, hear live music, snowshoe golf, snow tube, see plays or see hockey, there is something for everyone.  The sculptures are always incredible too.  Here is a schedule of events:

If you are looking to get away and enjoy a beautiful drive with a unique destination in sight, you should consider Gold Forks Hot Springs located in Donnelly, ID.   It’s an awesome place to soak your weary bones.

We go to Gold Forks Hot Springs a few times a year.  It’s clean and has several pools with varying temperatures.  Kids and adults enjoy soaking and playing in the hot pools any time of year.  It’s especially gratifying if you have been working outside shoveling or chopping wood OR if you have been playing outside skiing, hiking, snowmobiling.
