October Activities around Boise

October

October is one of the most fun months of the year.  There are many great activities to frighten us, to help us have fun, and to give us reasons to celebrate.  There’s no reason to ever feel bored during this month.  Here are some ideas of things to keep your month hopping.

Scarecrow Stroll

Monday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 31, 2018

9:00 am to 7:00 pm, Idaho’s Botanical Gardens:  2355 N Old Penitentiary Rd, Boise, ID

The Idaho Botanical Gardens is having their 11th annual Scarecrow Stroll.  Scattered among the beautiful gardens will be displays of 31 scarecrows.  These scarecrows are created by people and organizations throughout the community.  Everyone is invited to stroll through the garden to view these fantastic scarecrows.  If you’re a member, admission is free.  If you’re not a member then adult tickets cost $7, seniors 65 or older is $5, youth ages 5-12 are also $5, and children 4 and younger are free.  Don’t forget to vote on your favorite scarecrow.

The Farmstead Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

Friday, September 21 until Saturday, November 3

1020 S. Rackham Way in Meridian, ID:  Open Thursdays from 4 pm to 9 pm, Friday from 4 pm to 11 pm and Saturday 10am – 11pm.  Closed on Sunday

Field of Screams: open from dark until 11 pm every Friday and Saturday nights of October.

Each year the cornfield is cut into a unique maze and is the Farmstead’s main attraction. But, if you’re looking for something a little more daring then a Field of Screams just might be for you.  The Farmstead also has a Pumpkin Patch which can be accessed by foot or by hayride. You know you’ll get hungry while you’re there having fun so make sure you bring a picnic, or just buy food at the Farmstead.  There will be plenty available.

See Spot Walk

Saturday, October 6th, 9 am to 1 pm.  Julia Davis Park BandShell

The Idaho Humane Society is having their 26th Annual Dog Walk and Festival.  It is their biggest fundraiser of the year and will feature demonstrations, contests, food, and more. You can choose from a one-mile long walk through the park or a 5k Fun Run.  This event attracts more than 3000 participants both two-legged and four-legged.  So, bring your furry friends and help support the Idaho Humane Society.

Boo at the Zoo

Saturday, October 25, 10 am to 5 pm.  Boise Zoo

Animal lovers of the Treasure Valley, this is your opportunity to indulge in your love for dressing up and to satiate your sweet tooth at the same time.  Costume-clad workers will be distributing candy to all visitors.  There will be costume contests, face painting, fun, and games.  And if you haven’t yet picked up a pumpkin to decorate, no worries there will be a pumpkin patch available as well.  All proceeds go to benefit the zoo.

Frightened Felons

Friday, October 26 – All Ages Night 10+-year-olds:  Saturday, October 27 – Adults only

7pm – 11pm, The Old Penitentiary:  2445 Old Penitentiary Rd, Boise

The Adult night is exclusively for ages 18 and up. You will need to show your ID to take this tour.  You will be taken through the haunted Cell House where you will be scared to death and have fun doing it.  You’ll have an opportunity to watch Zombies dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.  There will be a costume contest, pizza, tacos, beer, wine and more.  Admission is $15.  For $30 you can go on a private, one and a half hour tour through the cemetery, penitentiary, the haunted Cell House and see actual mugshots of the former felons of Idaho.  This private tour will be guided by members of the International Paranormal Reporting Group.  There will also be a Frightened Felons Family Night held on Saturday, October 26th from 7 pm to 11 pm.  Although this is a family-friendly event, it is recommended that only 10-year-olds and older attend.

Linder Farms

Friday, September 21 – October 30, Monday -Thursday 5 pm to 9 pm, Fridays 5 pm to 10 pm, Saturdays 10 am to 10 pm and Sundays Closed.

7165 S Linder Rd., Meridian

At Linder Farms you will find a corn maze, pumpkin patch, concession stand, a petting zoo, giant slide, tire playground, pedal tractors, corn box, straw bale pyramid, straw bale maze, and more. It also hosts Zombie Acres which is a unique paintball adventure. Armed with a paintball gun, you’ll ride a bus through a field teeming with zombies.   Never a dull moment.

With so many fun things to do during October, it could be easy to spend more time having fun than doing the things you’re supposed to do!
